A MANHUNT has been launched for a Lithuanian teenager who has vanished while on bail.

The 17-year-old was put up at a hotel in Dodworth pending sentencing at Barnsley Magistrates' Court.

But within two hours of getting to the hotel, two men arrived and and took him away, the court was told.

The teenager was arrested after stealing three bottles of Jack Daniels from Morrisons on Westway, his solicitor John Jones said.

Mr Jones said the 17-year-old had been in the UK for three or four months. He had been living in Leeds but could not give details of where he was staying.

Mr Jones alleged the teenager was being 'groomed' for theft by others.

He added: "Accommodation was found for the teenager at a hotel at Dodworth. Within two hours of him being freed from custody, two men walked into the hotel and took him away to pastures new."

Jayne Ormrod, prosecuting, said the teenager had a foil-lined bag to beat security equipment when he was caught at Morrisons.

The teenager admitted shoplifting and breaching a 12-month conditional discharge for another theft imposed at East Kent Youth Court.

District Judge John Foster issued a warrant for the 17-year-old's arrest.
