BARNSLEY College is celebrating another excellent set of A-level results -  with more students passing and more achieving high grades than in previous years.

The overall pass rate at the sixth form college was 97 per cent, with 100 per cent pass rates in 12 subjects including English, further maths and French.

There were 169 more passes than last year due to increased progression from AS level to A2 and over 260 A*, A and B grades were achieved - an increase of 5 per cent on last year's figures.

Pass rates in six A-level subjects improved, including English literature, biology, modern foreign languages, history, business and classical civilisation.

Outstanding individual successes include Rhiannan Flack, a former Kingstone School pupil who achieved an A* in law and As in English literature, geography and drama and theatre studies. Rhiannan, who is now going on to study law at the University of Leeds, paid tribute to the college's teachers.

"My tutors were really supportive and always willing to discuss my courses with me to ensure my grades were the best they could be," she said.

Jenny Miccoli, principal at the college, said: "We're extremely proud of our students’ achievements.

"More are passing and more are achieving high grades. The results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students along with our high-quality teaching and learning."
