Man Jailed After Assaulting Wife

THE assistant manager of a bus company who punched and kicked his wife after wrongly thinking she was having an affair has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Alexander Bryan Ratcliffe, assistant operations manager with Stagecoach, was sent to prison at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on his 40th birthday.

Ratcliffe 'worked himself into a state' about the supposed infidelity of his wife Natasha, Chantel Lowery-Green, prosecuting, told the court.

She said Mrs Ratcliffe had spent the night before the attack with a friend.

When she returned, Ratcliffe asked her to leave, grabbed her by the throat, kicked her while she was on the floor and punched her. Mrs Lowery-Green said Ratcliffe also dragged her across the floor.

Mrs Lowery-Green added: "He worked himself up into a state because he thought his wife was having an affair. He now realises this was not the case."

Chris Peace, defending, said Ratcliffe, of Bellbrooke Avenue, Darfield, had sought help for psychiatric problems and wanted to be punished.

Mr Peace, who said the couple planned to get back together at the end of the case, added: "He is desperately keen to change. This has had a grave effect on him and an even graver effect on his wife."

District Judge John Foster said: "This was an appalling example of domestic violence containing every aggravating feature you can imagine."

Ratcliffe admitted assault.

two things really

a) I hope he loses his job
b) I hope his wife has a rethink about getting back with him as a leopard does not change his spots. We do not want to read about a murder do we?

There's 2 sides to every story , I'm afraid once the seeds have been planted into a persons mind for whatever reasons it will play and torture them I know myself how this feels with my own partner , a prison sentence is not appropriate he needs counciling and support to help himself and to and save his marriage and as for loosing his job I doubt this will happen , if the company he works for can employ someone who was convicted for downloading indecent images of children I'm sure they can tolerate Alex for what is a personal/domestic matter , and it's worth mentioning the other person didn't even get a prison sentence he just got a supervision order , there's no real justice these days so just take a step back and try to read between the the lines .

I have been cheated on a few times but to kick a woman and punch her with intent to harm is wrong, very wrong.
I would never dream of it.

Two sides to every story??? Are you having a laugh..i. does not matter if she was having a affair or not..Domestic violence is wrong no matter what she's done no one as the right to lay their hands on anyone!!!

about time they started jailing domestic violence offenders round here too many give a pathetic excuse for it and get let off. one recently where he smashed a window and door hit the victim over the back of the head and got probabation even though hes been convicted for domestic violence before!! the more they get away with it the worse they become

Two sides to every story? There are some backward people on this thread. Tis depressing.

Domestic violence is not acceptable in any circumstances.
