A COUNCILLOR hopes recruitment of staff for the new Aldi distribution centre will start soon.

Work on the Goldthorpe centre is speeding up and Cllr Ralph Sixsmith is hopeful that their staff will be mainly recruited from the area.

"All the infrastructure is coming along and it's going to create three hundred or so jobs," said Cllr Sixsmith.

"What we try to do now is ask for our people to be given first preference when it comes to new jobs in the area."

They will employ a large proportion of Eastern Europeans on the minimum wage.
Now is the time for a workplace cap on immigrant workers as far as I am concerned.

NO NO NO, What IS racist and discrimination on an unprecedented scale is the policies of the employers and employment agencies that ONLY employ Eastern Europeans, (Asos, Symphony) this is to all intents and purposes institutionally racist and discriminatory to people born in this country.

Let us be honest having seen people from Golie, it is unlikely that they will apply or if they do that they turn up, stay a full shift and not nick something.

Not a very nice comment about the people from Goldthorpe either is it.

Just to reiterate yet again, I have no problem with migrant workers per se, the beef I have is with the employers and employment agencies that only set migrant workers on mostly paying the minimum wage and without a second thought for the people that were born in this country who are for the most part desperate to find any kind of work.

The policy of only setting eastern Europeans is highly discriminatory and institutional racism against our own people whether the politically correct namby pamby idiots like it or not.
I'm waiting with baited breath for Hoyland Red to pop up and tell me off for daring to speak about migrant workers.

this is getting a bit stupid now all this pulling goldthorpe people down I very much doubt anywhere in barnsley is perfect and everyone has perfect neighbours with their perfect children it doesnt happen anywhere except in your dreams. There are hundreds of people who have been up to the job centre over the past few months to register for jobs so yes people round here DO WANT TO WORK and it would help if people who talk out of their rear ends leaves them alone to get on with it.I live within 3 mins of Aldi and will be extremely cross if I see loads of poles walking past my house because some greedy arse government wants to pay agencies 2grand for every pole/latvian they get work for and dont call me racist as my partner is half polish.

Goldthorpe has some decent hardworking people but we are not talking about them are we? We are talking about the ones who keep the police busy with their petty neighbour problems, the ones with litter and dog muck in their rented or social housing gardens and we are talking about the losers who sit outside the wmc's and the Rusty Dudley. The shoplifters and druggies and the chain smokers and in bred losers that populate the area. THEY do not want any work.

It is discrimination on a massive scale, but no one dares speak about it as we are deemed "racist"!
The british jobs for british people speech from Gordon Brown was nothing more than a soundbite.

There are 1.4 million EU wide jobs listed on the EURES website which is funded by the European Commission.
There are 800,000 UK Jobs also listed on that very site which is more than HALF of the jobs available in the WHOLE od the European Union member countries.

The EU Jobseekers can also claim up to £900 for "expenses" to cover travelling costs to get to interviews in the UK.

Employers and agencies that "employ" migrant workers are also eligible for a £1000 "bonus" for taking a non british worker on.

But alas a UK worker who wishes to work in Spain for example, does NOT qualify for the £900 travelling expenses.

The EU is totally one sided and is fundamentally flawed, some of the member states could NEVER compete with strong economies such as ours and Germany, their sole aim is to "redistribute" the wealth from the strongest EU economies to some of the poorest, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Romania to name but a few.

We have one the largest amounts of Migrant workers in the whole of the EU here in the UK, Whilst Germany and France have the lowest.

Do you think this is a coincidence?

Germany and France were the biggest influence in the setting up of the EU, they also have strong Engineering/manufacturing and agricultural backgrounds which entitle them to massive subsidies, subsidies that UK taxpayers have paid BILLIONS into, but we get very little back by means of EU investment.

Flawed, one sided, out of touch and only interested in themselves.

We need to wrestle our powers back from the EU before its too late, this will never happen in my lifetime though.

Next year will see probable one MILLION people (est) arrive on our shores to live and work here putting all public services, schools, housing and jobs at breaking point, we can not sit idly and let this happen.

Its about time that people woke up and realised the true effects of our membership of the EU.

too true stevo they say one thing and then do the same old thing. Trouble with people round here is that their parents have brought them up saying the sun shines out of labours rear end and they are fantastic they have never been out of the village to experience different places so they dont know things can be better if we start to change things. I moved up here nearly 20 yrs ago and if I was a boss and these people were in my employment they would have been sacked many years ago due to being lazy unreliable and just plain greedy.

Thing is many of the local people of villages like Grimethorpe and Goldthorpe are unreliable and many refuse to work. Fact.

Think is I look at things from the working mans perspective and personal experiences of trying to, and finding work in Barnsley.
Usually the people that moan at me for moaning about Eastern Europeans are people that have never had to run the gauntlet of trying to compete for positions of work against said Eastern European Migrant workers or the discriminatory employers and employment agencies that solely employ Eastern Europeans.

Yes it is a fact of life that there are many unreliable and down right lazy people that just do not want to work, but they are victims of a very generous benefits system that allows them to earn more on benefits than they would in work.
Of course this is morally and fundamentally wrong and personally I would put us in line with other EU countries such as Portugal, whereby the benefit recipient receives 6 months unemployment benefit then they are on their own.

However, the current employment "situation" and the minimum wage is fundamentally flawed, I know you love my statistics so here's a few for you:

Only 1 in four Top Companies pay tax.
The Tax Payer (me) subsidises the profits of big business to the tune of 31 BILLION pounds a YEAR!
1 in 8 workers in the UK have to have their wages topped up by Working Tax Credits to keep them off the breadline.

Working Tax credits is THE biggest growing benefits over the last decade.

All Benefits account for 1% of the UK's GDP.

There are now 1,000,000 (est) UK workers on Zero Hours contracts

Common sense dictates that if the minimum wage was a more respectable £9 ah hour, then people would not have to rely on the state to "top up" their slave labour wages and if the unemployed were persuaded to take a job at the reasonable rate of £9 an hour then the economy and unemployment statistics would look better as a result.

Unfortunately the jobs are just not there are 1.2 million migrants that have taken them, whether you or me like it or not.

The minimum wage is an absolute insult to the people who were born and bread in this country and the companies that pay the MW are profiteers at best, at worst those companies that only pay the MW are tantamount to slave traders.

Here's yet more stats for you to digest:

Sports Direct is one of, if not the biggest profiteer of the minimum wage and exclusively employs its 11 THOUSAND employees on zero hours contracts.
No Holiday Pay
No Pensions
No Maternity or Paternity pay

Sports Direct have just announced a jump in profits of 40%

Go on then here's some more employers that employ on Zero Hours:

Zero-hour contracts are used extensively in the private, non-profit, and public sectors in the United Kingdom. Sports Direct, a retailer, has 90% of its workers on zero-hour contracts while J D Wetherspoon, a pub chain, has 80%. Cineworld, a large cinema chain, also uses the contracts.

90% of McDonald's workforce in the UK - 82,000 staff members - are employed on a zero-hour contract. According to a McDonald's spokesperson all work is scheduled in advance with no employees being "on call" and meets the needs of workers who desire or need a flexible schedule.

A major franchisee of Subway also uses the contracts:

The company has no duty to provide you with work. Your hours of work are not predetermined and will be notified to you on a weekly basis as soon as is reasonably practicable in advance by your store manager. The company has the right to require you to work varied or extended hours from time to time.

The Subway workers are required a condition of employment to waive their rights to limit their workweek to 48 hours.

Burger King franchisees and Domino's Pizza operations in the UK extensively use zero-hour contracts.

The Spirit Pub Company has 16,000 staff on zero-hour contracts; Boots UK has 4,000.

Buckingham Palace, which employs 350 seasonal summer workers, also uses them.The National Trust, a non profit organization which manages extensive historic sites and nature preserves in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, which must deal with variable weather, uses zero-hour contracts but at the same benefits and pay as permanent employees. The Tate Galleries also use zero-hour contracts.

The Workplace Employment Relations Survey conducted by the government of the UK in 2004 and 2011 shows that the proportion of workplaces that have some employees on zero-hours contracts has increased from 4% in 2004 to 8% in 2011. The survey found that larger companies are more likely to use zero-hours contracts. 23% of workplaces that have 100 or more employees used zero-hours contracts in 2011, compared to 11% of those with 50-99 employees and 6% of those with fewer than 50 employees.
