Fit Reds Group Tackle Three Peaks

Monday August 12 2013

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

EIGHT Barnsley men rediscovered their fitness - by scaling the heights of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

The ramblers are part of Fit Reds - the healthy lifestyle programme for men aged 35 and over. In total, their Three Peaks challenge raised £595 for the British Heart Foundation which funds Fit Reds through its Hearty Lives initiative.

The men finished the gruelling 24-mile hike with a total ascent of 5,000 ft within the 12-hour time slot.

Trevor Swift, of Penistone, who has lost two stones through Fit Reds, said: "This is the most miles I have walked in a day and I thought I was never going to make it after the second peak.

"My legs were shaking but the camaraderie motivated me to complete the challenge. If I hadn't joined Fit Reds three months ago and changed my diet and increased my activity levels, then I would never have attempted anything like this."

The other walkers were Lee Thompson and Andy Hutchinson, of Millhouse Green, Dan Goddard, of Goldthorpe, Dan Wadsworth, of Wilthorpe, David Jenkins of Barnsley, Andrew Shone, of Monk Bretton, and Paul Tomlinson, of Cudworth.

Don't be fooled by it's location - the Yorkshire 3 Peaks is a gruelling trek! Well done!

I seem to think it's 26.5 miles too! :)

It was like walking a marathon, but up and down mountains, scrambling and actually climbing in places! Can't wait to do it again!
