A man has been arrested following a confrontation in Hoyland at the weekend which left a 49-year-old man with serious head injuries.

A 33-year-old Rotherham man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and grievous bodily harm.

The 49-year-old man is still in hospital, where his condition is described as life threatening.

At around 3.15am on Sunday, 21 July, officers believe that the injured man confronted an unknown male on Skiers View Road in Hoyland.
It is thought that the unknown male may have been attempting to break into the 49-year-old man's car.

Police would still like to encourage anyone with information about the incident, or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area, to contact South Yorkshire Police in 101, quoting incident number 298 of 21 July. totally disgusting behaviour who ever you are you have put this man in hospital caused his family so much upset and still the mans still critical u should be very much ashamed of your self people like you shouldnt be let loose on streets i would like to wish the man whos in hospital all the best of luck on making a good recovery ..

If this man is found guilty then he should be locked up for a very long time, its frightening how criminals can do such evil things, ruin peoples lives, then get to court with a sob story and get off lightly.
I hope not in this and all such cases, there has to be stiff sentencing to deter criminals, we are too soft.
I will vote for the party who is willing to give realistic sentences instead of a slap on the wrist.
Hope the victim makes a full recovery.

My boyfriend lives near to where this happened and I think they found the person who did it yesterday across the street from where my boyfriend lives, the person who did it is known as a 'smackhead', they should send him away for a long time for what he's done to that man :@
