Police appeal after armed robbery Police appeal after armed robbery

THE police have issued an appeal following an armed robbery in Goldthorpe.

At 10.40am on July 16, police received reports of a robbery at the Credit Union on Barnsley Road, Goldthorpe.

Police believe that two masked men entered the store brandishing a baseball bat and a bladed weapon.

One customer was in the store at the time of the incident and a quantity of cash was stolen.

It is thought that the offenders left in small van, similar to a Ford Escort. The van is described as white, with an amber light on top. It is believed the windscreen was cracked. Officers believe that this vehicle had been parked on Gosling Gate Road.

No-one was injured during the incident.

If anyone witnessed the robbery or has any information they are urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 377 of Tuesday 17 July.

Can not believe this the credit union is just round the corner from the police station they wouldent have even needed cars to get there within mins, police are on the streets with in seconds when young ones are on motor bikes, so why did it take them so long to respond to a armed robbery

corden off goldthorpe because the robbers will have probably lived within a 100 meter radius.

They do have lockable drawers but how can they lock them when there is an armed robber threatening them? It would be a stupid move and it's not up to staff about having protective screens the boss feels it would be too impersonal as the credit union is run by its members it should be a safe place for all. Thugs like this are just disgusting, its basically stealing from their own community!

The reason we don't have protective screens up is because we are supposed to be the "friendly face of finance" and are run by our members.. But this is not up to the staff to decide what kind of protection there should be in place anyway.. Also we do have lockable draws which are kept shut and locked unless they are being loaded or withdrawn from.. What happened is really terrible, no way should the staff have to go through it... And I'm sure the amount of cash taken isn't worth a prison sentence..

well tbh non of this world happen if the government helped us all get a proper job that pays enough to live comfortably but no they sit on there back sides so i say take all the money you can end of day people have families to feed and that comes first if it means you have to steal to look after you family and keep them safe and healthy do would do the same many of you will not agree this this but end of day you need to look after your own

Im not normally one to pipe up on these but the comment left by "liam" There's a difference between stealing and threatening someone's life you absolute inbasul, how single minded can one person be! Blame the government all you want but making sure you are in employment is down to each individual. the credit union is there to help communities and the fact that someone feels the need to put that company and their staff at risk is absolutely disgraceful.
