HS2 budget increased HS2 budget increased

THE budget for the much-criticised HS2 railway has increased by nearly £10bn to more than £40bn, the transport minister has said.

Patrick McLoughlin told MPs that the new projected cost of £42.6bn, up from £33bn, would include a large contingency fund.

He said the final cost could be lower than the new estimate, but said revising the figure was right.

The new high-speed railway line is intended to link London to Birmingham by 2026, with branches to Manchester and Leeds, via Sheffield and through Barnsley, planned by 2032.

The first phase budget is now £21.4bn, with £21.2bn budgeted for phase two. These figures include a contingency fund of £12.7bn across the scheme.

what a waste of money. Totally of your heads. How much? That would go a long way of improving this country. Not by putting a faster train service up.

Surprise, Surprise!

Was only an extra £2 billion a couple of weeks ago, a waste of time, effort, money and green belt land.

Great news, £40 billion spent on improving travel times to London where only a few of us needs to go (except our MP's of course) while journey times to Doncaster, Leeds, Sheffield and Scarborough keep getting longer.??? I've become convinced the only qualification you need to become a politician is to be blind to the obvious.???

Well. We didn't see that increase coming did we? Ha haaa. What a set of clowns our govt. are why does this happen?? Was the same with the O2 thing in London. And with wembley. If a estimate is given to build something, that estimate should stick. Someone explain. Whyyyy has the price been increased ???

Price has increased because it has been project managed by a set of imbeciles who are on the take....as will be most of the contract bidders !!

They need to have words with the person who estimated the budget! People are struggling to keep food on the table and roofs over their heads and the money we are paying to reduce the defer sit is going into a new train set for MP's because no one else can afford to go on the train! People can afford to keep their bedrooms never mind get to London faster! Come on guys wise up!
