Pensioner dies after fatal crash Pensioner dies after fatal crash

ONE man died and a woman was critically injured following a crash on Sunday in Ardsley.

The incident happened at around 4.13pm on Sunday, June 9, outside the Stackyard Flats on Doncaster Road.

A white Toyota Carina was travelling along Doncaster Road towards Barnsley when the driver apparently lost control of the car and struck a lamp post in the central reservation.

The driver, an 86-year-old man from the Sycamore Street area of Barnsley, suffered fatal injuries. He was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, where he died several hours later.

A female passenger, aged 78, from the Doncaster Road area of Ardsley, sustained fractured vertebrae and two broken ribs. She is said to be in a 'critical’ condition today in the Northern General Hospital.

Hi Lisa i would just like to thank you so much for your what you did yesterday it was my nanan and her partner unfortunately, it's not clear whether her partner suffered any kind of heart attack or similar causing him to actually lose control at the moment, but we can't thank you enough for your help you might have saved my nanans life as she has overnight shown some improvements in her condition and is extremely lucky at this moment in time.

This is a perfect example of how laws regarding elderly drivers are so lax.

Your comment is not welcome on here this is not a debate on the subject, Ron was a healthy elderly man and a very competent driver having worked as a wagon driver all his working life until retirement, you can suffer a heart attack at any age doing anything so if that was the case your point is irrelevant, Paul (below) is right have some respect when me and my family are going through something you could only imagine to be horiffic, thanks.

I agree Stacey! Very wrong of you Ron to post your comment. I live in Ardsley and know the family involved. Have some respect and do not judge. Like you say Stacey, a heartattack can happen to anyone at any time!
Thought are with your family Stacey at this sad time. The village are all thinking of you nan at this time and wish her a very speedy recovery. xx

Rog.... it doesnt say exactly how it happened, it might not have been the drivers fault. and like Paul days, wrong time and place.

Rog..facts are 18 -24 year old's have the highest number of accidents, 86 year olds have the least

Reply Posted by Dave on Tuesday June 11 2013 at 19:22

Lisa has shown a human side that is often lacking in people nowadays. She is both decent and compasionate and deserves praise for her actions. Most would walk the other way and even worse such as snap a picture to broadcast the acciident. God Bless Lisa and the Lady involved in the accident hope she makes a swift recovery. Glad she is improving.
