Car Boots Could Face Fees

Tuesday June 4 2013

Move could earn council £4,000 a year Move could earn council £4,000 a year

ORGANISERS of charity car boot sales in the town could face fees of £30 a day after Barnsley Council proposed a change.

Although it's usually free, the council has put forward a fee structure in a review of licensing such events held outdoors for sporting, social, charity and political purposes.

If approved, the move will generate £4,000 a year in income for the council.

Under the new structure, organisers of charity car boots and those held outside schools would get their first two events in a year free - then have to pay £30 plus VAT for any additional days.

The council says Barnsley is one of the few authorities where these events are free of charge.

Their proposal will be discussed by Barnsley Council Cabinet on Wednesday.

Greedy BMBC. These events are for Charity. They stopped private car boot because they have a "CHARTER", Then they run the council one down because it is a gloomy location. I don't believe any council charges for charity functions. :(

Labour stopped representing the working man a long time ago. Wake up Barnsley!

Let them fiddle whilst Rome burns...

While ever they are faffing it will only throw more voters to UKIP.

Its a joke Barnsley council need to review wages for the top nobs and get some revenue in1st

This is another ridiculous proposal by the council. With the bureaucracy which exists at the council the collection and administration costs would clearly exceed the revenue raised.

The lunatics are still running the asylum.

Yes, the lunatics ARE running the asylum, one question begs to be asked is as follows:

Forget history, forget what your grandparents told you, the Labour party was set up for the average working man and all they are now is Tory lite, with no clear policies of their own.

Kick them out of our town now!

Just out of interest - you do appreciate that the Councillors are basically rubber stamping or at least considering officers ideas. Officers that is of all political pursuasion, that are being tasked to maximise revenue in all departments to cut down on the need to make more people unemployed and to reduce the need to increase council tax (at some point in the future) for maintaining public services - but I appreciate that you've already started your political campaign for UKIP

Ohh here we go, I do not, have not and will not ever be a member of, nor will be associated with the UK independence Party.

Obviously tis yet another case of the bureaucratic buffoonery of BMBC, maximising departmental revenue streams you say?

Same old "party" line from Houghton & co, ooh were skint, lets have a meeting about a meeting to discuss a meeting about how to screw more money out of the local populous to pay for our errors and misgivings.

Or the old "The Tories are cutting our funding we HAVE to raise Council Tax line", we have heard it all before.

With regard to the "cuts", these are austere times, unfortunately the leader and his minions in their newly refurbished municipal ivory tower and retained true to their original Labour ideals of spend, spend, spend and now the sh*t has hit the fan they will do absolutely everything in their power to ensure they retain their overly inflated salaries and for the most part, Diamond encrusted pensions without thought for the local townfolk that have to survive on minimum wage and have to rely on tax credits to top up their meagre family incomes.

Yes of course there will be cuts in public services, we know it they know it, they aren't that bothered though are they really?

Houghton sits in his Ivory Tower earning £176,000.000 PA and once retires will retire on at least £1,000 per week.

There is obscene and there is obscene, how on earth can the "leader" ( I use this term loosely) earn more than the Prime Minister of the uk?

The reason they get away with it Stevo is because Barnsley people are still stuck in past, thinking that the Labour Party represents the views of the common man. If you painted a dog red and put it up as a labour candidate people would vote for it. When a lump of scrap is more important to our councillors than charitable works it is certainly time for a change.

rick r, yes this is the point I m trying to convey, I like your analogy, mine was a monkey in an astronauts suit as long as it had a red rosette.

The Labour party was set up by the working man for the working man, all they are now is Tory Lite and have no clear policies of their own.
Unless they go back to grass roots, remain true to their original ideals of being the party for the average working man they can stick their vote as far as they can get it as far as I am concerned.

Of course they will never go back to the "red ragging" days, they are too entwined with big business and far too scared of Europe, they also have a leader that is about as strong and as charismatic as a wet fish, the icing on the cake for me was when millibuffoon announced that there would be NO referendum on Europe.

I can forsee a hung parliament again next time and either a UKIP/TORY or UKIP/Labour coalition truly scares me.

There are NO current credible mainstream political parties that would get my vote.

The town centre is public land , the council cannot charge for political activity on public property

the car boot market on a Sunday is rubbish the council should use the car park on county way near the bus station for car booting there are 100's of spaces there that way they would not have to charge for charity car boots sales DONCASTER car boot has more Barnsley sellers on there than on Barnsley carboot (MARKET) on a Sunday they could even charge for parking like Doncaster do WHO the hell is in charge of running the car boot stalls cant they see that it is slowey dieing in Barnsley COME BMBC get your head working 100'sof un used space in car park £10 ago £3000-£4000 per week car parking fee for car boot £1000 do the maths not hard car boot on market £1000 a week if that no parking fees 90% of car booters go to Doncaster BIGGER BETTER that what Barnsley has to offer so sad to see but yet again all the council in Barnsley is bothered about is the town hall and a big cd rack in front of it

I'd happily pay £30 per entrance...

collecting £4,000 over 52 weeks with the multi-levels of administration that BMBC has got will no doubt cost £5,000. The same as they pay to insure that stupid nit comb statue at £100 per week

alternate Sunday mornings i go to the rugby ground near Ossett a massive car boot and to Doncaster car boot, i also go to Fitzwilliam on a Wednesday morning when im not working would it be too much to ask Barnsley to do something along the same lines if we are so in need of money. can they not see how successful these car boots are? people would flock in once word got round and probably pop into our town once they have finished putting money into our town.

They have to try and recover the cost of the piece of scrap they have just spent a fortune erecting outside the town hall. Barnsley Councillors are seriously loosing the plot.
