Food Bank Near For Cudworth

Tuesday June 4 2013

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

FOOD is now being collected in Cudworth to provide a food bank for people in need.

Father David Nicholson of St John the Baptist Church said members of his congregation have already started coming forward with tinned and dried items to help those in crisis.

He is now asking other residents in the village to do the same.

"We've got a healthy stock already, it's not as much as we will need but it's a start," he said.

"It's about the principle of when people go and do their weekly shop, if they see a buy one get one free offer then they pick one up and bring it to the food bank."

A venue has yet to be decided but the bank would be based in Cudworth and not at the church, he said.

Another meeting is planned at the church on June 4 to move plans forward.

Father David said he hoped it would be set up sooner rather than later.

"This is something that's happening all over the place with welfare reforms and job losses. It's all becoming a reality. Something that's somebody else's problem is going to become ours."
