A MONK Bretton dad who overcame testicular cancer is being joined by his three sons on a bike ride to raise funds for the hospital that treated him.

Darren Hayes, 39, and his lads, Maxim, 12, Harrison, nine, and Jenson, six, will take part in The Big Pedal to raise funds for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

The bike ride, which will take place on the morning of June 16 at Worsbrough Mill and Country Park in Barnsley, will give participants the option of cycling a 35-mile ‘ultimate pedal’ route, a four-mile ‘grand pedal’ or a two-mile ‘mini pedal’, which is perfect for younger cyclists.

Darren, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2007 and underwent chemotherapy, said: “The treatment that I received through Weston Park Hospital was second to none and I can’t thank them enough.

"The Big Pedal will be an opportunity to raise as much money as possible for such a worthy cause that helps to keep families, like mine, together for longer.”
