Air Ambulance Cost Rockets

Air Ambulance cost dramatically rises Air Ambulance cost dramatically rises

THE daily running costs of Yorkshire Air Ambulance have soared to almost £10,000 - a rise of almost a third.

The charity previously needed £7,200 every day to keep its two helicopters running, but it now needs to raise a further £2,790 each day - taking the new daily running cost to £9,990.

It means the charity's annual bill is now £3.6million each year.

Chairman Peter Sutherland said the increase was mainly due to the rising price of fuel, premises and maintenance costs.

"We have not been immune to the challenging economic environment over the last few years and as a result, we're seeing a major impact on our running costs.

"We have to pay utility bills like everyone else, and we've all seen an increase in those costs over the years."

But he said he was confident the charity would find the money.

Last year the air ambulance attended 933 incidents.
