Fundraising Evening Is Big Success

PEOPLE queued and crammed into a church for a 10-year-old boy's fundraising evening.

The evening was to mark the battle against cancer being fought by young Alex Bird.

Alex, who has been diagnosed with a form of leukaemia and has a cancerous ear tumour, has started three years of intensive chemotherapy and steroid treatment.

His illness did not deter him from throwing himself into helping prepare for the fundraising concert to raise money for PACT - a charity based at Sheffield Children's Hospital which works to improve the lives of children with cancer.

The St Edward's Church concert was even more special as it featured the Barnsley Metropolitan Band. Alex's brother, Matthew, 14, plays with the group.

Alex's mum, Lindsey, of Monk Bretton, said: "It was an amazing success - people were queuing out of the door and filled the church."

It raised £1,957. Click here for more information.
