A BARNSLEY MP has criticised the government for failing to outline plans in the Queen's speech to introduce plain packaging on cigarettes.

Dan Jarvis is pushing for more action to be be taken by the government to cut the number of people who take up smoking at a young age.

Mr Jarvis has entered into the ballot for a private member's bill and if successful has pledged to use the opportunity to introduce standardised cigarette packaging.

He said in Barnsley, smoking costs £73.5million each year and there are 485 adult deaths each but 951 children aged between 11-15 take up smoking. Approximately 1,100 between 10-14 are regular smokers.

"It's time action is taken to prevent the costs of smoking stretching further and further into the future," he said.

“We know advertising works and smoking kills - it’s time to do something about it.”

Mr Javis i think instead of concentrating on packaging for cigarettes the government should be concentrating on more important matters ie the death of an innocent soldier in the name of religion the needless deaths of our disabled and less fortunate citizens due the recent government changes the fact since april 2013 the current government has trodden all over the less fortunates human rights failed to provide the basic of needs adequate housing jobs safe places to live etc im afraid the packaging of cigarettes just doesnt seem that important!!!!!!!!!!!

The glaring omission from the Queen's speech was our exit from the EU. At this point nothing else matters because, if we don't leave, we won't have any more choices to make.

As I am from Nottingham I have no interest in you inbred Arthur Scargill fanatics.
I will continue not to represent you in a way I do not see fit.
I will also continue to receive my lovely salary and mega expenses claims.
I will also only visit Barnsley when absolutely necessary , once a year should do it.

Yours sincerely

It would be nice if money was put to better use such as creating jobs, or investing it into schools or healthcare .

Mr jarvis wants to try doing the job he is paid for .And that's is helping to better the lives of Barnsley people ie more jobs. Not spending time on useless acts of parliament, that has little benefit to anyone.

Mr Jarvis is simply seeking to promote himself. Egotistical behaviour.
