RESIDENTS are confused at the council's decision to stop mowing a playing field.

A sign was put up at the field off Everill Gate Lane, Broomhill, stating the grass would be cut one to three times a year instead of 13 times as part of a three-year trial with environmental group Dearne Green Heart.

It says the change from an 'amenity cut' to a 'conservation cut' was unlikely to save the council money but was 'in order to benefit wildlife.

Pete Wall, Dearne Valley Green Heart project manager, said he was surprised at the choice as the purpose of the scheme was to get people out more.

Strange how cutting this playing field 9 times less is unlikely to save money when recently the council stopped cutting the fields opposite the longbow in darfield because they say that cost £800 a go . !!!!! err, confusing.
