Thousands Register For Cheaper Energy Bills
Wednesday May 15 2013
MORE than 4,000 households in Barnsley have registered for an energy switching scheme to save money on their gas and electric bills.
YORswitch Barnsley became part of the most successful local authority collective energy switching scheme ever, with a total 160,000 registrations from more than 100 councils all over the UK.
The idea was to gather the interest of residents in an attempt to entice energy companies to offer their lowest possible energy prices.
The winning energy providers were British Gas, Sainsbury's Energy and Scottish Power.
The 4,300 households who registered should already be receiving their quotes to see whether the winning providers can supply energy cheaper than current suppliers.
The overall average savings per registered household across the country is about £114 per year.
