Barnsley Survive After Final-Day Drama

Saturday May 4 2013

BARNSLEY will play Championship football next season after a dramatic final day of the season.

A 2-2 draw at Huddersfield Town had looked to have relegated the Reds as Peterborough were drawing at Crystal Palace, but an 89th-minute winner from Palace's Mile Jedinak saved Barnsley from relegation.

Barnsley had twice taken the lead against their Yorkshire rivals through Chris O'Grady and Jason Scotland, but were pegged back both times.

A frantic final ten minutes in the league saw the Reds being minutes away from relegation, but Crystal Palace's 3-2 victory ensured the Reds' survival in the most dramatic fashion.

Since David Flitcroft's arrival, Barnsley have played some great football and after today's performance, they're most certainly deserving of their place in next year's Championship.

A message to the Directors, 'Give Flicker the job and offer new contracts to all those who are nearly out.' We will be immense next year.

Bobby Hassell is worthy of a new contract, if only for his off the pitch contributions. The man is a gentleman, proved with his efforts and embracing of the community at the Love Life Festival. He, alone, has made my children want to attend every game as he made them feel welcome @ BFC. Also mention for Jim O'Brien's contribution to Sunday's Keelfest. You're both diamonds.

Well Done Flitcroft and the Reds, lets hope the directors back him with some money for next years campaign. They said Barnsley FC would lose £6 million going down, so why not get some money spent to stay up and not for another relegation battle either.!!!!
