Barnsley Joins Love Your Local Market

Thursday May 2 2013

Would you like to take part? Would you like to take part?

WOULD you like to be a market trader?

Barnsley has signed up to a fortnight-long national campaign to entice new market traders, beginning on May 15.

The Love Your Local Market campaign aims to attract new traders while highlighting the important role markets play at the heart of the community.

In Barnsley, market managers are giving new traders the opportunity to trade rent-free for five days during the campaign fortnight.

Cllr Linda Burgess, said: “Barnsley has a proud markets heritage and the national campaign is an ideal way of introducing the next generation of traders to an exciting business environment.

"It’s the perfect opportunity to try out your products in a cost-effective way."

Hey Linda,

When's work on the new market starting? you said early this year, late last year, the year before, the year before that, the year before that etc etc,

Barnsley did have a proud market heritage now it's starting to look like an embarrassing flea market in areas.

I bet she doesn't shop there.

Like many others I loved Barnsley's old open market, goods were cheap and it was a great way to shop. Unfortunatley the covered market because of the rents the council charges will never be able to compete with the supermarkets. Go in to the market after 3-30pm and the place is closing down, while busy working people can shop 24 hrs at places like Tesco. Demolish the covered market and give us back our old open market, and keep council meddlers out of it.!!!!
