Police clamp down Police clamp down

POLICE from Cudworth and Royston SNT have been stopping vehicles in an operation.

Officers stopped work vans and pick-ups at Laithes Lane, Athersley and Weetshaw Lane in Cudworth to carry out inspections and look for anything suspicious.

Sgt Nick Redfearn said they were asking drivers about their work and where they were travelling to. If anything seemed out of the ordinary, they relayed the information back to the police's intelligence department to see if they were rogue traders.

On Weetshaw Lane, 32 vehicles were stopped and eight vehicles were fined for being too wide to use the road.

"Because we have got all the scrap companies on here people use this road," Sgt Redfearn said.

"It's a good road for us to start with because the type of vehicles that use it are the type of vehicles rogue trading."

The police worked with a member of the Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) who checked vehicles to ensure they were fit to be on the road.

In Weetshaw Lane one fine was given for a driver who had no MOT certificate and another person was fined for not wearing a seat belt.

Don't the Police realize that word spreads fast, and people make a detour to avoid them . Simples !

That is the whole point. The road has a width restriction and has had for decades.

Therefore if they go another route problem solved. Simples!

BTW Geoff the Police have a responsibility to deal with all crime including traffic. Not just the bits you want them to deal with.
