Residents Disappointed By Lack Of Bus Services

Residents want extra services Residents want extra services

RESIDENTS say they're being left out in the cold due to lack of bus services.

Bus users in White Cross and Worsbrough Dale say the community has been "cut off" since the regular bus service along Ardsley Road and through Brocklehurst estate, known as the White Cross circular, stopped.

Supported by local councillors John Clarke and Betty Barlow, they're now campaigning for two buses an hour. More than 65 people are due this week to hand over forms with their comments to Stagecoach and the Travel South Yorkshire partnership.

Residents claim there are five buses an hour through Kendray to Bank End and want at least one to be diverted via Hunningley Lane and Ardsley Road.

Sylvia Speight, 66, who lives on Ardsley Road, said: "We as a community have to walk to either the Kendray Hotel or Bank End Avenue to catch a bus. This results in many people finding it extremely difficult to get into town to catch trains and buses to work or the shops.

"The return is even more difficult if carrying shopping especially during cold, wet winter months.

"It is well known that by restricting transport options to individuals it can result in isolation, causing physical and mental ill health."

Mrs Speight said bus services had been disappearing since she moved to the area 15 years ago.

"It's also affecting younger people who want to get to college," she added.

A Worsbrough - Stairfoot - Barnsley bus would be a good idea seeing as theres no direct route via public transport on that route

Stagecoach is a poorly ran company ' I emailed head office a few months back about poor bus service between Darfield to Barnsley - I just got a none sense reply back saying theyed have to cut services at another bus stop in the village ' to make better time tables which would be unfair to people who use the other bus stop the elderly etc. What about cutting some for the busses from wombwell to Barnsley ? I recently saw 3 busses back to back and empty heading for Barnsley on Wombwell high street. Wasteful and neglectful poor management

people always moan when a service is cut or take off, how can a bus service operate if only a few people use it, IF THATS THE CASE EVERY TIME SOMEONE WANTED A BUS THEY WOULD BE OPERATING BUSSES THROUGH OUT EVERY STREET IN EVERY ESTATE; THIS IS ONLY INPOSSIBLE BUT NOT POSSIBLE.Its time people stop moaning and except that a service can only run with the people catching it regular not every now and again, would u run somthing that does not pay, its like saying we will buy this just incase we need it some day, DONT THINK SO

When you look at how many buses are running on other routes (empty) maybe the cuts have been made in the wrong places. The 66 on Sheffield rd to elsecar runs every 9 minutes and then they send the 67 bus out on the same road, why doesn't that go via stairfoot, white cross, west st (and serve the health centre) then back in its route up Worsbrough Village?
It's no good Stagecoach telling my 80yr old father that walking to Bankend has health benefits to him when he can't even get to the doctors for his angina checks!
Kill them all off then the problem will go away eh??
