THERE has been a drop in cable theft across South Yorkshire.

There were only 28 thefts over 2012/13 - compared to 160 the year before.

Rachel Lowe from Network Rail, said: "There isn't a silver bullet for this problem - it's been an effort from a number of parties. We have started reacting more quickly by using CCTV to minimise inconvenience."

Network Rail said that train delays are down by 66 per cent across the county.

Just goes to show the new rules that scrap dealers can no longer pay cash is working.

However even 28 thefts is 28 too many

Yes that's had an impact but the fact scrap yards can pay by cheque then cash yhe the cheque for the customer is stupid.
