Sadler Gate Closure

Friday April 19 2013

SADLER Gate is to be closed for up to 12 weeks.

As part of the current works to create the new Experience Barnsley Museum, external improvement works will begin on Monday April 22.

To enable construction to be carried out in a safe and practical manner, Sadler Gate will be closed to vehicles, between St Mary's Place and Church Street, from this date.

This temporary closure is expected to last for 12 weeks.

Traffic will be diverted via St Mary’s Place, Church Lane and Church Street.

The improvement works consist of re-paving the footways along the Town Hall frontage and Sadler Gate with natural stone materials, as well as reconstructing and resurfacing the carriageways.

A coach drop off point is also being constructed on Sadler Gate for visitors to the Experience Barnsley Museum.

In addition, the re-paving also includes part of St Mary's Place and Church Street to tie in to the works currently being constructed.

Cllr Roy Miller, said: “The nature of the works will temporarily cause some disruption to the travelling public. However, once completed, the Town Hall frontage and Sadler Gate will be much improved and together with the Experience Barnsley Museum will be an asset to the town.”

This is stupid, we are getting married next month and had to get permission to park 2 motorbikes outside the town hall whilst we were getting married, now tell me how are we going to get on to Lancaster gate? It would have made more sense to leave the Register Office on Berneslai Close until all the work at the town hall was finished. That’s Barnsley Council for you.

12 weeks for a small area. I thought that works were supposed to have been finished on Town Hall for June and Experience Barnsley Opened by then???

Why does EVERYTHING take so long at BMBC?
