MORE than 40 groups across Barnsley have shared £10,000 in grants from Berneslai Homes.

Now in its fifth year, the young person’s funding pot offers grants of up to £300.

The money awarded can be spent on trips, equipment, activities and community benefit projects.

This year, 19 groups have been successful and in total have been granted £5,000.

Successful organisations such as the scouts, a swimming club and a cricket club have all received grants.

The 4U Berneslai community grant, now in its second year, invites community and voluntary groups to apply for grants of up to £300. The grant can be used to set up a new or extend an existing project.

This year 22 groups have been successful and in total have been granted £5,000.

They range from a coffee club, help for veterans, a community centre, a war memorial restoration group and a church drop-in.

Berneslai Homes business and customer service director Dave Fullen, said: “We would like to thank all those groups who applied this year for the grants. We are pleased that the funding makes such a big difference and encourages communities to come together to share and celebrate their interests.”
