BARNSLEY Hospital has been ordered to pay a six-figure sum in damages to a doctor after he was wrongly accused of fraud.

Dr Michael Fish, 45, had been accused of falsifying his time sheets to claim for hours he had not worked in 2009.

Two of its doctors wrote to the General Medical Council informing them Dr Fish had committed fraud.

But in libel proceedings at the High Court on Tuesday, the hospital's then clinical director in anaesthesia, Dr Ye Myint, and Barnsley Hospital Trust accepted Dr Fish did not make any fraudulent claims.

"What they've done is morally repugnant and callous," said Dr Fish. "I'm a professional person. I have integrity and I'm a very honest person and for them to say those things without any justification is unbelievable."

Surely the two doctors who made these false allegations are the ones to be sued not the NHS. Or at least the HHS should sue the two doctors who did this vile deed. Why should tax-payers get the bill for all this.??

i know about this case and the 2 guilty doctors hid themselves behind the NHS litigation authority rather than defend it themselves. the NHSLA protects NHS employees who do dirty deeds, as this pretty disgusting example shows.
