STAFF and pupils at St John's Primary School have been celebrating after being rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted.

This year's inspection was the first time the Chapelfield Lane school has been assessed since the juniors and infants merged in January 2012.

The infant school was previously rated 'outstanding' with 'good' teaching, while the infants was rated 'good' with 'outstanding' elements.

Proud headteacher Antoinette Drinkhill, said: "The many positive comments contained in the report are a credit to all the staff, children, families and governors of our school."

The school was judged to be 'exceptionally successful in ensuring pupils thrive academically and personally', as well as having a 'warm', 'caring' and 'aspirational' ethos.

Congratulations! Always been a good school and taught more than academic skills. Long time since my kids left but eldest, Charlotte, went on to get a first class honours in physics with astro physics, middle Amy, now 3rd year at med school, and Ben, doing a chemistry degree but learning the art of being a pisshead!!!!! All down to a good basic education and socialisation at St. John's infants and juniors, and PGS! No bad schools in Penistone!
