THE chief executive of Barnsley Hospital has resigned after being offered a position at Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust.
A spokesman for Barnsley Hospital said Paul O'Connor had made an 'immense contribution' over the last three years.
Mr O'Connor said he felt 'privileged' to have worked at Barnsley Hospital and enjoyed 'every minute' of his time there.
"I’ve learned a lot during the past three years. Barnsley is a great hospital and is well set up for the future," he said.
Stephen Wragg, chairman of the trust board, said it was to Mr O'Connor's and the the hospital's credit that he had been offered the position.
Mr Wragg said it had been an honour to work alongside him and he would be sorely missed.
"He leaves Barnsley Hospital in a strong and stable position and I will do everything I can to ensure that we build on his legacy," he said.
