Friday March 1 2013
SOUTH Yorkshire Police has been involved in days of action to combat burglary this week - and they've arrested 37 people and seized £140,000 worth of cannabis in the region.
House burglary is nine per cent of our overall crime rate and in the last year 26% of all house burglaries were as a result of homes not being secure, due to having an open door or window.
Police in Barnsley arrested nine people - two of which have now been charged - for burglary offences and recovered stolen property.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Stopford, who led the operations, said: “This has been a successful week and we will continue to make an impact on burglary, as a commitment to our communities to tackle this crime and target criminals in South Yorkshire who make people’s lives a misery.“
