Oxspring Man Calls For Action On Speeding Vehicles

Tuesday February 12 2013

AN OXSPRING man is calling for action to prevent motorists speeding on the main road through the village.

Chris Rutter says some drivers are travelling at twice the 30mph limit on Sheffield Road.

He also says there have been instances of drivers overtaking vehicles on the wrong side of the road's traffic islands.

"The speeds they come through there, you wouldn't believe it," he said. "They're doing 50 or 60 miles an hour in the morning."

Mr Rutter thinks a screen displaying vehicle speeds would help reduce the problem as it 'psychologically' slows drivers down.

PC Nichola Garbett, from Penistone police station, said Sheffield Road was a police priority regarding speeding vehicles.

I totally agree as some parts of that road is 40 phm and its on a slight hill just after argo and when trying to cross from the new estate is a danger have had a few near misses when crossing with kids as you cant see whats going up the hill and they go so fast
