Father And Son To Cycle 900 Miles For The Sick Children's Trust

Monday February 11 2013

A HOYLAND father and son duo are embarking on a gruelling 900-mile charity bike ride for the Sick Children's Trust.

Peter Amstess, 46, and his son Daniel, 19, will be cycling from Land's End to John O' Groates in June after Peter's nephew Alex Amstess, 16, was diagnosed with leukaemia last year.

Alex underwent chemotherapy at Leeds General Infirmary in 2012 and his parents Martin and Sue stayed at a house run by the trust while he was receiving treatment.

"The people at The Sick Children's Trust were just there in their moment in need and we wanted to give something back," said Peter.

Alex is now in remission and Peter said he has made a good recovery.

Setting aside two weeks for the journey, the pair have been training separately as Daniel is studying for an degree in engineering at Cambridge University.

"He has got it easier because it's flat," Peter joked.
