EIGHT new buses fitted with free Wi-Fi internet access have been introduced in Barnsley, thanks to a £1.1million investment by Stagecoach.

The fleet of single deckers have been introduced on route X19, which connects Barnsley with Doncaster-Robin Hood Airport.

It will also be doubling the number of buses that run the route - increasing them to every 30 minutes between Barnsley and Doncaster, Monday to Saturdays.

Spokesman Rupert Cox said: “The X19 is popular with workers, shoppers and leisure travellers and the introduction of free internet access is part of our commitment to catering for the requirements of passengers, for both business and leisure.“

Trent Barton Buses (East Midlands) have already installed this throughout their fleet. It's a great incentive to get people using public transport.

I think this article could be misleading, it implies that 1.1 million was spent on just the WiFi, I think its more likely that 1.1 million was the cost for the 8 buses, which have wifi on them
