A RUTHLESS bag snatcher who attempted to mug an 83-year-old woman is the subject of a police search.

The woman was on Marsh Street in Wombwell at around 1.30pm on Monday (January 7) when she was approached by the man who tried to grab her handbag.

She held on to it and called out for help and a passerby rushed to assist, causing the man to flee empty-handed.

The man is described as white, in his twenties of slim build. He was wearing a red baseball cap.

Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 554 of the 7 January 2013 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

If caught and convicted let's hope the scum gets prison time. Heartless and remorseless. Second thoughts could join this government in stealing from the old, weak and poor.

pure scum but this kind of thing is going to get worse as the government keeps doing cut backs less jobs less money and less police the crime rates are going to rise and some people just don't care how they get money and they are going to target them less to put up a fight and its a bloody disgrace
