SCHOOL crossing patrols across Barnsley have been given a new look to make them easier to spot.

The new uniforms - bought in by the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership - are said to make them stand out from other types of road workers.

Susan Fox, patrol supervisor at Barnsley Council said: “With these new uniforms, drivers really have no excuse for not seeing the wardens.

"The law states that drivers must stop for school crossing patrols and failure to do so could result in a fine of up to £1000 and three penalty points.

"It really is important that drivers show respect for the crossing patrol wardens, their role is vital in helping both school children and adults to cross the roads safely.”

People interested in becoming a lollipop man or woman can email susanfox@barnsley.gov.uk or telephone 01226 772024.
