Witness Appeal After Charity Shop Break In

Thursday January 10 2013

A CHARITY shop is appealing for witnesses after £200 was stolen in a break-in over the new year period.

Sneaky thieves broke into the Barnsley Animal Rescue, on High Street, though a security gate and window at the back of the property.

The shop's safe, containing £200, was stolen along with a cricket bag, which the safe is believed to have been carried out in.

Volunteer Barry Furness said: "This is always the worst time of year for us because bills go up and sales are down. We're appealing for donations because that £200 should have gone towards rescuing animals."

Call South Yorkshire Police on non-emergency number 101 with any information on the incident.

I'm really upset to hear about this. I work for the Charity and i know how much work and effort our guys put into raising money for the animals we rescue. We put a lot of time and effort into this charity and a lot of money from our own wages. To steal is wrong full stop but to steal from a charity is just low. People don't realise how much it costs to look after the amount of animals we do. I hope the theif is found. I woll work even harder this year to help us raise this money back. Stay strong x

I actually cant believe this. Those guys work so hard to get that money and a lowlife just steals it. All those animals who will go hungry now or who wont be able to be given a bed and turned away. Makes me so mad. :( x

This is disgusting!! My grandma helps this charity out by working in the shop and has done for many years! What goes through people's minds to steal and especially from a charity shop???
