Concert Raises Cash For Cancer Charity

Monday December 10 2012

MORE than £1,000 has been raised for a local charity thanks to a performance from Barnsley Community Choir.

The group held a concert in Barnsley College to raise the cash for The Pippa Jones Little Treasure Trust.

The 45-strong choir was accompanied by Music students from Barnsley College at the event which featured songs from the 1950s to 2012.

Choir Leader Kershia Pierce said: “We had a fantastic evening and really enjoyed performing to a packed house and being able to raise £1,018.”

Louise Jones set up the charity in memory of her daughter Pippa who sadly died from a brain tumour in 2010 and was recently awarded the ‘Proud of Barnsley – Volunteer of the Year Award’.

She said: "The cash raised will be spent on activity bags for children with cancer and on grants towards childcare costs for families who have a child with cancer and other siblings to look after."
