Barnsley Forged Bank Note Warning

Tuesday November 20 2012

THE NUMBER of forged bank notes circulating in Barnsley has rocketed, according to police.

A spokesman has warned shopkeepers and the public to be on the lookout for some fake £10 notes that are circulating.

Police Sergeant Derek Barker said: “We would advise shopkeepers to thoroughly check all notes of this denomination before accepting them.

"The metal thread running through the note shows as a broken line when held up to the light instead of a solid line.

"Retailers of all trades could suffer unexpected losses, especially in the run up to Christmas.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I had one of these notes passed to me in payment for goods. It was a very good fake, the front of the note was perfect even down to the hologram area, however the printing on the back was darker than normal. I handed it into the Co-Op bank, because I wouldn't want to pass the note on to some other unfortunate person! So all I got for my trouble was a receipt. But I have learned to check notes carefully now, in times like these I can't afford to keep getting stung...
