Barnsley's Street Pastors Praised

Thursday November 8 2012

South Yorkshire's Street Pastors and Police South Yorkshire's Street Pastors and Police

THE STREET pastors who look after drunken revellers in the town centre have signed an official agreement with the police.

The Memorandum of Understanding saw the street pastors commended for the work they do in supporting the night time economy by helping to keep people safe.

The pastors are a group of volunteers who are out on Friday and Saturday nights from about 10.00pm until 4.00am.

They  carry a supply of flip-flops, lollipops, water, basic first aid kits and space blankets and often step in to help mediate arguments.

I am a Street Angel in Bolton and have been working regularly on a Saturday night helping vulnerable people. We have a safe space 'cafe' where we can take people back to so that they can sit down, have a warm drink and wait for a taxi. We also help out the ones who are a little worse for wear and the ones who get split from their friends - anyone who is vulnerable. It is very rewarding and you do not have to be a member of a church to do it - all you need to do is care enough about people :-) I am from Hoyland Common originally so I am really pleased to see that Barnsley has Street Pastors - maybe one night on a visit they will let me accompany them to help some of my fellow Barnsley people. Talking of which I met 3 young ladies from Barnsley last Saturday night in Bolton - I do hope the young lady from Wombwell is OK - you had me worried there for a bit hunny xxx

ppl who get so drunk and end up at a&e should pay for all treatments and transport its a drain of funds from NHS cannibis is ileagle becouse its mind altering yet no one ends up at a&e every wk from smoking it i think alchol and cigerettes shoud be made ilegal or legalise all drugs this county would save millions and stop ppl getting crimminal records and would stop dealers avoiding taxes

Karl ? ? No one ends up in A + E from smoking ? What planet are you on ? Billions , not millions of pounds are spent every year on people with diseases JUST from smoking .. It doesn t only cause lung cancer . .. it causes Throat cancer , tongue , mouth . stomach cancer ... heart disease , hardening of the arteries things too numerous to mention ! So never mind legalise drugs .. get a brain .. or is yours melting with all the poison !

Avril, you are both right and so, so wrong at the same time, as well missing the point and the bigger picture. Well done for that, it couldn't have been easy :o)
