Free High Vis Vests Offered To Cyclists

Tuesday November 6 2012

FREE high vis vests are being offered to cyclists to try to make them safer on the roads as the dark nights draw in.

The South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership is  giving away free hi-visibility vests for cyclists and reflective bag strap covers for year six school children as part of the Be Bright, Be Seen campaign.

The free items will be available from the Connects offices and libraries across Barnsley on a first come, first served basis.

Mike Stanley, Senior Road Safety Officer, said, "As the dark winter nights approach, cyclists should make themselves more visible by wearing fluorescent and reflective clothing and having adequate lights on their bike. Remember that it is illegal to ride a bike after dark without lights. In addition drivers and other road users should remain vigilant and look out for cyclists."

Brilliant idea especially with these dark winter nights. It is important to create the importance of safety early and giving children reflective bag straps is a good way to start.Well done to South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership
