Thugs Jailed Following Attempted Murder Of Barnsley Teenager

THREE thugs have been jailed following the attempted murder of a Barnsley teenager who they left for dead in a ditch at a Manchester park.

Michael Brownlie, 26, Nicholas Lindsay, 22, and Katie Mongan, 18, all of Longsight, Manchester, admitted involvement in the attack on Manchester University student Daniel Whiteley, 19, of Roman Road, Darton.

At Manchester Crown Court last Friday Brownlie and Lindsay were sentenced to 18 years for their part in the attack. Mongan was jailed for seven years.

The trio, who had been drinking all day, frog-marched Daniel into Platt Fields Park and forced him to hand over his bank card and pin number in the early hours of February 28.

They then kicked and stamped on the first-year English student and Lindsay threw him, unconscious, over a fence and dumped him in a freezing stream.

The attackers then fled and withdrew cash from his account.

Brownlie and Lindsay, both of Longsight, Manchester, admitted attempted murder and robbery on the day of their scheduled trial last month. They received concurrent six-year sentences for the robbery.

Mongan, also of Longsight, pleaded guilty at the earlier hearing to causing grievous bodily harm with intent. She received a concurrent four-year term for robbery which she too admitted.

When are they going to realize we need a deterrent to stop things like this happening! its time hanging was brought back for all convicted (Proven) murderers of all kinds & corporal punishment for those doing crimes! GBH ABH Burglary, we have lie detectors & are just starting to use them for sex offenders! They should be used in every court to clear those accused & get those that are guilty! the population is growing out of control & money is getting harder to get, and unless something is done crime will only get worse.

Nobody has the right to take someones life away from them (no matter what they have done) hence why we no longer have corporal punishment in the UK.

If we kill someone for murder then we are no better than them.

Rubbish Zak ! these scum-bags don't deserve to breath the same air as this poor defenceless boy. I hope at least that prison becomes a never ending nightmare for these three scum-bags, I hope they get abused, bullied and beaten just as Dan did, He has to live with this the rest of his life

Oh and by the way Zak, its costing you, me and every other tax payer including Daniel lots of money to keep this scum alive.

Stick their heads on a pole outside of the courthouse thats what I say. Perhaps we wouldn't have this sort of toe ragg roaming the streets then hey Zak

are you serious!
Lets just say if you kill someone what we will do is put you in a nice warm place with 3 meals a day, where you don't have to work but can watch Jeremy Kyle, or pay pool or go on the xbox allday. a place where the people looking after you have to be polite and couteouse whilst you can be as abusive as you like to them. you can sit and talk to your fellow inmates and learn all about how to commit more crimes when you get released. and the best part is That the parents, grandparents, friends and every other law abiding tax payer are funding this wonderful life.
If you go to dubai there is very minimal crime because its snap eye for snap eye, you steal and get caught you lose an hand.
I say let the parents of the victim decide
Because people like Ian huntley, moira hindley, liam Brady and all the other dirty low life scum would never have lived a life of luxury in a prison.
Look at America 60 years ago we are know the some, do ee want it to get where because your dog barks you go get a gun n shoot it, then the owner shoots you
No! The death penalty might not stop murders but it will be s deterent and if iy Dave just one innocent life its worth every criminals death

Absolute scum! I completely agree with Eric. This country would be a much better place to live in if criminals actually got what they deserve. An eye for an eye spings to mind.

we are too soft with them ...ok no death penalty .....but no comforts either.....they should forfeit there rights an have no pleasures at all. its like a holiday camp they have telly, games consuls, pool tables ect ....these should be taken away from them...after all they tried to take a life.
