Plans To Demolish WMC For Flats

Tuesday September 11 2012

PLANS have been submitted to the council to demolish a disused Working Men's Club in Kendray and build flats on the site.

Rajesh Gupta, from Doncaster, wants to demolish the Farm Road WMC and build nine two bedroom flats on the site.

Barnsley Council will now consider the application and decide whether the change of use will be allowed or not.

the working mens club looks like an eye saw, if it replaced by flats, it will make the area look alot nicer, and with the shortage for affordable housing, it's a great idea for kendray, kendray could do with nice new properties to bring the area up to date, as when you look around other villages, new housing & properties are an asset to the area.

please do not let this be turned into flats or houses this is a part of our community and should be a social place or pub since kendray no longer as a pub.

Will a pub or social club survive, why are so many closing down, ask yourself that, we should be grateful that someone that someone is willing to through money at an old property & turn it into something new & nice.

flats and houses can be good things in villages. but there are enough empty properties in and around barnsley and nearby villages, but take a look at the name of the propser.?..and who will be habiting within these flats and \ or houses. think about this .

I'm looking for affordable preferably a new flat, as I work at the hospital, location wise it,s great for me & if the prices are reasonable, I would definitely be interested, there are quite a few empty properties in Barnsley that suit me, but there arn't many that are modern at the price I'm looking for that near to the hospital, many nurses & doctors share my views.

I had my very 1st job there, 1975 to 1977, i was 16 years old in 1975 and started as a glass glass collector. My wage was £2 and 2 half pints of coke per night.

I would rather it be opened back up as a community centre to give the kids something to do.

I don't think flats will fit in with the surrounding houses, and 9 2 bed flats???? The spot doesn't look big enough

We have regenerated kendray over past years with new properties on populars and chestnut crescent as well as new affordable being built now just off cypress road..in larch place where old peoples bungalows once stud....community house has gone which was a drop in for people seeking advice etc...why couldn't we do same with farm road club/ youth drop in centre/ bingo for elderly ...everything seem to be going January saw the bop close down after 50 years or so being a community centre....

It should be opened back up as a pub it brought everybody together I was a regular in that pub we had a thriving football team having a local pub is good for the locals now the Kendray pub has closed there is no where to drink only ashfield or town big shame ..hope the council open it back up as a pub ..however if it's flats then someone having a home is more important than a pint .. up the reds

I think the reason someone burn't it down is, because it was a derelict closed pubs, As we know there are plenty of young idiots with nothing better to do than vandalise & burn things down.
Unfortunately the company who bought the property were not insured, so ended up losing a lot of money due to some idiots burning it down.
