Barnsley Lad Joins Marines
Thursday August 30 2012
A BARNSLEY lad has secured a place in one of the world's most elite military units - the Royal Marines.
Ashley Holling, 18, who studied public services at Barnsley College, had originally hoped to be a fire fighter but went on a trip to train with the Royal Marines as part of his course.
He said: “I had wanted to become a fire fighter before we went on the trip. It was the best part of my course and really made me determined to follow that path when I finished my studies.
“I had to do both written and physical assessments as an entry test and these were tough but I got through them and was so happy when I found out I had got a place. I start my 32-week training course in October and on successful completion of that I’ll be a Royal Marine."
