Friday August 23 2019

WENTWORTH Castle Gardens is opening its doors free of charge as part of Heritage Open Days.

From September 17 – 19, residents can visit South Yorkshire’s only grade one listed landscape without paying an admission fee.

Wentworth garden is home to Stainborough Castle, 500 acres of parkland and a Victorian conservatory.

The National Trust is working with volunteers to host several free activities across the three Heritage Open Days.

These include exploring the garden archives, an under fives story telling session and castle tours.

All activities are drop in sessions and are all free to attend.

Rose Stanyon, National Trust partnership manager for Wentworth Castle Gardens, said: “We are proud to be a part of such an amazing initiative, which gives local people an opportunity to come and experience this special place without the usual admission charge.

“Our wonderful volunteers will be leading a variety of activities to showcase the colourful history, gardens and parkland of this special place.

“We want Wentworth Castle Gardens to be a place where hundreds of people come together to make this place what it is. We urge the local community to come and take part, have your voice heard, share your pride and a sense of place, be part of the movement.”
