Appeal following knifepoint robbery

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a robbery and attempted robbery was made in the space of 30 minutes.

At 4.15pm on Saturday, police were called to Thurgoland Post Office, Roper Lane, to reports of an attempted robbery.

Two men wearing balaclavas are reported to have entered the store, with one climbing over the counter to try to open the till.

They fled empty-handed in a silver Peugeot when they were disturbed by the post office staff.

At 4.40pm, officers responded to a report of two men wearing balaclavas entering the McColls on High Street, Worsbrough, and threatening staff with a knife.

The suspects made off with a quantity of cash from the tills and fled the scene in a silver Peugeot.
Staff at both premises were left shaken but uninjured.

A 39-year-old man from Sheffield was arrested on suspicion of robbery and released under investigation.

A police spokesman said: "Police are treating the two incidents as linked. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 689 of August 3."
