Carlton Gets New Children's Home

Thursday September 8 2011

PLANS to convert a private house in Carlton into a children's home were approved yesterday.

Ray Woodhams, of Spring Lane, was given permission to convert the double garage into an additional bedroom, utility room and two offices to allow a children's home which currently operates in Lundwood to move to new premises when its lease expires.

It will offer five long-term placements for children between 12 and 17 years old and will be staffed constantly with more than three workers.

There were eight letters of objection put forward against the plan - which said the proposals could lead to anti-social behaviour and higher crime if it housed troubled young people.

But the planning report said: "Representations raised with regard to anti social behaviour concerns are subjective and are not considered to be a material planning consideration in this instance."

Planning permission was granted yesterday.
