Review set to take place on school meals

Wednesday May 22 2019

BARNSLEY council representatives have met with schools representatives and staff to discuss proposals for school meals supplied by the council.

The council’s school meals service currently supplies meals to 44 primary schools in the borough.

A group was established to review the school meals service, and several options have been discussed and shared with trade unions.

No decision has yet been made and a report will be presented to the council’s cabinet on Monday, which will include feedback provided by trade unions, school representatives and school meals staff.

Coun Jenny Platts said: “The report, which will be presented at Cabinet, will discuss all the viable options available for the future of the council’s school meals service.

“We want to make it clear that, despite what has been published in the media and on social media, children will not be losing their school meals.

"Whatever decision is made, our focus is on supporting schools to provide balanced, healthy, quality meals for our youngest residents.”
