Think before you park

Thursday May 16 2019

INCONSIDERATE parking has led South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to put signs up on heavily congested streets to appeal to drivers.

A spokesman from SYFR told WAB that fire engines have struggled to fit through some streets in Barnsley, identifying particular issues near Barnsley Hospital.

However, residential areas in Athersley, Brierley, Cudworth and Royston have all been raised as issues at recent crime meetings in the town, and more signs encouraging drivers to park responsibly will be sent out in the coming weeks.

A statement said: “We’ve started doing this as we have struggled to navigate through some streets. Inconsiderate parking is a serious issue that can slow us down.

“A fire engine’s width is 3.1 metres, or ten feet. We’re asking people to think before they park and ask themselves if a fire engine could fit through.”
