Crawshaws saved from closure

Thursday December 6 2018

A BUTCHERS that was on the brink of collapse has been sold, saving 240 jobs.

Crawshaws announced at the end of October they were going into administration after stating they did not have sufficient cash resources to effect the required restructuring of the business.

Crawshaws, which opened in 1954, had 54 stores across Northern England, including a market stall in Barnsley for over 17 years which closed in August this year following the opening of their shop on Upper New Street.

After they announced they were going into administration, 34 stores were closed along with a distribution centre, causing 350 people to lose their jobs.

Their administrators decided to keep the most profitable stores open whilst negotiations took place and the Barnsley branch remained open throughout.

On December 3 a statement was released confirming Crawshaws had been sold to Loughanure Limited for £1.4 million.
