RUSSIA'S energy minister has visited Barnsley College to look at the work it is doing to protect the environment.

Brizhan Vitaliy visited the Think Low Carbon Centre at the college’s Honeywell Campus as part of his UK tour.

He also visited the London Olympics site to view power supply arrangements, and identify good practice that could be applied in the preparations for the winter Olympics in Sochi.

College spokesman Neil Brown said: “This visit arranged at the Ministers request is a real feather in our cap, and it has been a great opportunity to showcase the outstanding training facilities we have to offer to local and international businesses.

"He was particularly interested in our links with industry, and our vocational and apprenticeship training programmes"

Barnsley College is developing business opportunities and educational partnerships overseas, as part of its drive to encourage international students to study specialist Higher Education courses in the town.

Areas of study available include Environmental and Sustainable Construction, Business and Management and Engineering for Mining.
