THE OWNERS of a care home in Kendray have been fined more than £10,000 for flouting fire safety laws.
Park Care Ltd, the owners of Park Grange Nursing Home on Neville Avenue, pleaded guilty to three breaches including a failure to put in place suitable fire emergency procedures and failing to rectify defective fire doors.
They were warned by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue about the problems in August last year but did not fix them.
The fire service served an enforcement notice and the owners pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates Court.
Fire service spokesman Terry Guthrie said: “These breaches were so serious that had there been a fire at the home there was a real danger that residents would have been seriously injured or worse.
"Care homes are responsible for the safety of vulnerable residents and they need to adhere to fire safety regulations. Where we find these regulations aren’t followed we will take swift action.
“It should also be noted that we gave the owners the opportunity to rectify the problems before bringing a prosecution but they chose to ignore our warnings.”
