POLICE have issued an appeal for witnesses after a man died and four people were injured in a car accident in Barnsley on Friday (July 27.)

The crash happened at around 10.25pm on Industry Road, near the junction with St Anne's Drive on Carlton Industrial Estate.

Police say a blue Piaggio NRG motor scooter was travelling from Carlton Road, toward Fish Dam Lane when a blue Peugeot 306 overtook.

It is thought that the car lost control, veering into a concrete lampost.

The Peugeot driver, a 22-year-old from Lundwood, died in the collision and four passengers were injured.

 A17-year-old girl is said to be recovering from life threatening injuries while a 16-year-old boy received a broken femur and pelvis, both are being treated at the Northern General Hospital.

Another man, 19, had minor back injuries that were treated at Barnsley District Hospital and woman, 25, minor whiplash.
